Description
Two figures move through a tunnel of illuminated maple — branches arching overhead in layers of crimson, gold, and the deep burgundy that only late November produces. Shrine lanterns cast warm pools across the gravel path, catching the women mid-stride in that particular posture of shared experience, heads tilted toward the canopy.
Autumn light-up at a Shinto shrine. The kind of evening where the air carries woodsmoke and the crunch of fallen leaves underfoot becomes its own rhythm. Overhead, the maples burn with an intensity that feels borrowed — a week of this, maybe two, before the branches go bare and the lanterns come down.
